I was lucky enough to be invited to throw some headphones on this morning, and hear the 'rough' version of the new Florida Georgia Line song. I spoke to the guys earlier this week, and they told me they would be taking some chances on the new album, and the next single would be from a future release.
The song was amazing, CMA Song of the Year caliber. It certainly wasn't anything I would consider 'bro-country.' Not that I have any complaints about bro-country, I'm actually a huge fan of the subgenre. Since my time was limited, I listened intently for tan line, beer, and tailgate references. There may have been a beer reference, but I don't believe there was. The lyrics are deeper, and have a bit more substance than previous releases – with the exception of 'Stay,' which lyrically isn't bro-country. I was sworn to secrecy on the title of the track, but I can tell you it's mid-tempo.
If it fair to say that you and I may not share the same opinion because I favorite FGL? Yes. But I think we can meet in the middle of this track. You're going to like it, or maybe you won't. But I bet you'll at least listen now.
