Country music’s list of living legends has been dwindling rapidly lately, so if you are lucky enough to have one of the few remaining ones on your interview schedule, it only seems right to actually keep that appointment.
Unfortunately, one popular DJ doesn’t seem to see things the same way.
Back at the end of March, I got several emails from people who were angry – or at least had their feathers mildly ruffled. Popular music slinger Bobby Bones was scheduled to interview living legend Merle Haggard, but skipped out for unclear reasons and left his producer to conduct the interview in his place.
I could see why some fans would find the move disrespectful so I emailed to see if I could get to the bottom of why Bobby had ditched The Hag. I got an initial response when I mentioned I had a question to ask about Bobby, but once I sent in my actual question about why Bobby would skip out on an interview with Haggard rather than rescheduling or just sticking around to do the interview himself, I guess no one felt it was worthwhile to answer because I received no further response.
Seriously, though, short of the birth of your first born, the death of a family member, or an IRS audit, I can’t think of much that would compel me to leave an interview with a living legend in the hands of my producer. Looking at Bobby’s website, it says:
Listeners were mad at him for not standing up for himself…. So Bobby decided to go with it and play “Shoot A Deer” but that means he had to leave the show for a day. That leaves Amy as the host and Eddie is going to interview Merle Haggard.
So Bobby ditched Haggard so he could go and play a game? I don’t get it. Maybe you have to be a regular listener to his show, which I’m not, to understand.
All that aside, I did find the extremely short (2 minute) interview entertaining. I mean Haggard defends Justin Bieber, what more could you ask for?
“What did they do? They threw Justin Bieber in jail for driving a car too fast on the beach. My god, what’s he gonna do next? My god, he’s 19 years old and he drove a car too fast. What can we expect out of a boy as popular as he is? What should he do?
I know what I’d like them to do to Justin Bieber, but I’ll leave that opinion to myself.
So what do you think? Were people right to be offended that Bobby skipped out on interviewing the living legend? Let your feelings be known in the poll below.
