On Feb 21, 2014 The Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland was completely jam packed with country music fans. With a line up such as Craig Campbell, Thompson Square, Chase Rice, Eric Paslay & Joe Nichols, no wonder it was a sold out show.
This wasn't your typical concert, this was for charity and proceeds were benefiting the American Heart Association. Also, they all performed on stage together and took turns at their acoustic version of past and current singles.
I've always been a fan of Joe Nichols, however, this is my first time seeing him live. His vocals are nothing short of perfection. It's almost like he was born to just sing. He has a laid back vibe about him when he performs and he sort of gets to the point. He performed his new single "Yeah" and I found it to be enjoyable. He is remarkable at writing songs. He also did one of his older songs titled "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" and the crowd loved it. Joe is excellent at what he does and that's making great country music.
Chase Rice may have been the freshmen of the bunch but it wasn't noticeable. He pretty much ran most of the show. His personality is massive. Chase Rice brings some modern flavor into country music. He performed a song he wrote which was a big hit for duo Florida Georgia Line. "Cruise" is one of those songs you can't get out of your head, it's catchy. He also sang his current single "Ready Set Roll" which also has catchy lyrics and a upbeat vibe. Although Chase isn't what I would consider "real" country music, he really knows how to put on a show.
Married duo Thompson Square also joined in on the fun. They performed a few fan favorites such as "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not" and "If I Didn't Have You." Their chemistry on stage is undeniable even after fifteen years of marriage. Shawna has this amazing ability to pull you in when she sings, she is a power house. Also, she is gorgeous! Keifer really shocked me with his guitar playing skills, the man can play. One thing is for sure, they didn't disappoint.
Most of you know Eric Paslay from his current single "Friday Night." However, long before his music career he was co-writing hit songs for people like Jake Owen and Eli Young Band. Eric has some massive vocals and I immediately got goosebumps when he started singing. His songwriting skills are impressive as well. Eric Paslay is here to stay.
Craig Campbell is one of those artists I was on the fence about, until now. If you're looking for a flaw in Craig's performance you won't find one. He performed his two latest singles "Outta My Head" and "Keep Them Kisses Comin." Craig has great stage presence and he brings a lot of realness and tradition to country music. Craig Campbell has a new fan, I'm hooked.
