Keith Urban officially returning to “American Idol”

By now everyone's probably already heard the news, but in case you've been out of the country or otherwise distracted, Keith Urban has officially announced that he's returning to "American Idol."

On Thursday, Urban announced the news on his Twitter account: "Thrilled to be back on @AmericanIdol with my pal @RyanSeacrest and dying to know who the other judges will be!!!!"  

No other judges have been announced yet, although Fox chairman Kevin Reilly said on Thursday about all the rumors swirling around, "most of what you've heard and read about has merit." 

According to, Jennifer Lopez is very close to inking a deal to return to the show. Other names being thrown around right now are Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Kimberly Perry, Pharrell Williams, Will-i-am, and Grace Potter. Last season's judges Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Nicki Minaj have all declined to return. 

"American Idol" is set to return for its 13th season on January 15, 2014.
