Part down-home country girl,
part sophisticated musical veteran, Amy Rose has already earned a reputation
for being one of Ontario, Canada’s best-known secrets. From her early years on
small-town fair and festival stages, to her brand-new, Nashville-recorded
single, this Rose with the soaring vocal range and pop country sensibilities is
on a journey to the world stage and beyond. In addition, she is an Independent Country Music Association award
winner, as well as an Ontario Country Music Association award nominee. Her
single, "I Just Want You To Know" hit #9 on the New Music Weekly
country chart, and #85 on the Music Row chart. Her new single, "Party Like
a Redneck" is currently climbing both charts. She recently performed at
CMA Fest and will open for Big and Rich in the fall.
I decided to interview Amy to get more of an insight into her
life and music.
Your current single
is ‘(Redneck Reunion) Party Like A Redneck’. Tell me a little bit about this
song, the inspiration, the recording process, the reaction, etc.
I had the honor of co-writing this song with my extremely
talented producers Glenn Coulson & Marty Beecroft… The inspiration comes
from what some people would call “MY REDNECK FAMILY”… The recording process was
so much fun with a dash of thrilling and the reaction has been out of this
world amazing… I’m just so blown away by all the support I have been receiving
from radio with this single… THANK YOU
FANS FOR BEING SO KICK ASS!!
How have you been
taking all your success? It must be quite overwhelming at times.
To be honest at times I’m waiting for someone to pinch me so
I can wake up as this all feels like a dream… I have been dealt a pretty
awesome hand over the past year and have had some incredible opportunities
given to me. However, with that being said, it’s a very hard industry to break
into so I take each moment and embrace it as if it was my last… I’ve come a long
way in the past 20 years as an artist but I still have a long way to go in
order to reach the top.
‘I Just Want You To
Know’, your previous single, was originally recorded by the Backstreet Boys.
What made you decide to record a song so far removed from country, and why did
you choose this song in particular?
Well a friend of mine is a huge BSB fan and had showed me
this song about 5 years back and suggested that I record a country version… I
automatically fell in LOVE with the song but at that time I was pregnant with
my second daughter and was not looking to get back into recording so I put it
on the back burner… About 3 years later I met my producers and had showed them
IJWYTK and they loved it just as much as I did… A few months later we went to
Nashville and cut my version of the song which would later become my first
Your upcoming third
album is called ‘The Beginning’. Is this a bit of a theme for the record? Tell
me about what we can expect from it.
Yes the title of this upcoming album is called “The
Beginning” and the reason behind that is, over 20 years in the music industry
and THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
Growing up in
Ontario, Canada, how do you think country music translates to that area, and is
there pressure to live up to some of the more famous country artists from
I think country music has evolved and is bigger than it has
ever been… Whether it’s Canada, US or UK, Country music has definitely set a
trend and is taking the world by storm…
There is some INCREDIBLE talent all around the world and a ton of people
I look up to. Some are from the wonderful roots of Canada… I’M PROUD TO BE A CANADIAN CHICK!
After being a teen
artist, you took a break to raise a family. What made you take that decision?
There comes a time in everybody’s life when you really need
to just take a step back and breathe… For me I had been living and breathing
music from such a young age that I think I lost track of the real me and the
type of artist I wanted to be… Taking time off was probably one of the easiest
but hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make… In my time off I accomplished one
of the greatest tasks ever, becoming a Mom to 3 of the most incredible little
girls in this world… Now I’m back with a
brand new attitude and ready to show country music that I’m here to kick some
What are some of your
musical influences and inspirations, your idols?
Dolly Parton all the way baby! I absolutely LOVE her!
Do you have a release
date for the album yet?
No release date has been set as of yet however I’m crossing
my fingers for late 2013.
Other than that,
what’s next for you? Any tours planned?
We are gearing up for the release of my new Canadian single
“Sunshine” coming to radio July 22nd 2013… We have some show dates
around Ontario including opening up for country duo Big & Rich in Lucknow,
Ontario on August 24th 2013… Woohoo! I’ll be heading to New York in
October for a mini press tour as well as tons of radio and press interviews
booked for the rest of this year.
