Westboro Baptist Church pickets Carrie Underwood concert and George Jones’ funeral

Typically, I wouldn't give Westboro Baptist Church the time of day. However, considering the world we live in now (and in light of the recent bombing in Boston), it's a necessary conversation to keep having. We all need to understand what's going on in our own backyards.

It's all about love, people.

Carrie Underwood performed a show tonight (May 1) at the Spring Center in Kansas City, Mo. All was set to go off without a hitch…until the poster-carrying extremists took the streets outside of the arena to promote their hate-filled speech. This time around they carried signs emblazoned with such words as "Gods H8s Whores" and "Christians Caused Fag Marriage." Honestly, it can't get much worse, especially for someone like Carrie who believes in love and treating your fellow man with unconditional kindness.

I suppose this was bound to happen, considering Carrie's remarks last summer during an interview in the UK.

"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," she told The Indepenent. "I can't imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

She notes that her stance on same-sex marriage comes because of her Christian values, not in spite of them.

She continued, "Our church is gay friendly. Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me'. No. We're all different. That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody."

While her words of encouragement are reather refreshing, WBC's display of hate (in spite of their so-called Christian beliefs) is rather atrocious.

In addition to picketing the concert, the radical group also reworked the lyrics of Carrie's "Blown Away" into "Blown Away USA" earlier this year. I bet you can already imagine what they sing about. They fit the lyrics to promote their own devilish ways and actually pray for a twister to destroy this "doomed nation."

In case you ever wanted to know, here are the lyrics:

God's lightning cracks across the skies
His righteous fury in His eyes
You hated your brothers and sisters
You put your soldiers in the ground
God will send His final twister
We pray, blow it down
There's not enough pain for this doomed nation
To wash the sins out of your house
There's not enough words from this doomed nation
To save your children and your spouse
He'll shatter every window til it's all blownaway
Every brick, every board, every lying whore blown away
'til there's nothing left standing
Nothing in the USA
Every filthy talking pervert will be blown away
Blown away (Blown awaaaaaay)
God hears your raging screamin' mouths
In bright glory, He's comin' with a mighty shout
Try to lock yourselves in the cellar
Listen to the screaming of the wind
You'll cry to the stones for your shelter
His glory, He'll avenge
He'll shatter every window til it's all blown away
Every brick, every board, every lying whore blown away
'til there's nothing left standing
Nothing in the USA
Every filthy talking pervert will be blown away
Blown away (Blown awaaaaaay)
There's not enough pain for this doomed nation
To wash the sins out of your house
There's not enough words from this doomed nation
To save your children and your spouse
He'll shatter every window til it's all blownaway
Every brick, every board, every lying whore blown away
'til there's nothing left standing
Nothing in the USA
Every filthy talking pervert will be blown away
Blown away ee-ay ee-ay ee-ay ee-ay

If you can stomach it, take a listen:

Also, WBC is set to picket at George Jones' funeral tomorrow (May 2). The funeral service begins at 10 am at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville and is open to the public. They will be manning the frontlines from 9:15 right up until the ceremony.

Their official press release reads:

God gave drunkard George Jones a decent singing voice and a huge platform, which he should have used to encourage obedience to His Word and warn the wicked that their rebellion brings destruction from the hand of God. Instead, he used his talent to glorify himself and engage in much adultery. Rather than warn this nation of the consequence of proud sin against God, he squandered every opportunity. To show His glory, God killed George Jones and cast him into Hell as He will soon do to all impenitent sinners.“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God,” (2 Cor. 10:5).Westboro will picket his funeral to warn the living: “except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3. You should be MOURNING FOR YOUR SINS, begging forgiveness of the Sovereign God of Eternity, who holds your life & soul in His hands. Instead, you rebel further, curse God with every breath, & ask “what is our sin?” (Mal. 3:13). You have no proper thoughts of the God that created you, but we’ll be there to make sure you don’t forget when you haul your rebellious carcasses into that necromancy festival of sin called a funeral. Obey & fear God Almighty – YOUR Sovereign Creator.

Recently, WBC were reportedly set to picket at the funeral of the Boston Marathon victims but never showed. A member of the church, a guy by the name of Steve Drain, spoke Metro US about their views, the Boston bombings, Tim Tebow and why people would actually love them.

"We are not there to bring any emotional distress, He says." From the Bible’s perspective, we care way more about those people than their supposed friends and neighbors do. There is nothing better that a man or woman can do than tell the truth to somebody else. We aren’t trying to go there to get attention or to inflict emotional distress. We are trying to go there to say, ‘Stop your sins, you are angering the Lord.’"

As expected, WBC preaches that "God sent the Boston bombers." Steven adds:

"What we are saying is this: Shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it? Was God on vacation during that day? Was God taking a little nap? If God wanted those people to stay alive, would they not be alive? What people want to do who call themselves Christians is say they believe in God, but flip the light switch on and off whenever it serves their fancy. Kind of like how Reggie White wants to thank God when he wins the Super Bowl, but not when he loses the Super Bowl. The bottom line is this: If God can bless the nation, he can curse the nation. When people are running down the streets of Boston and get blown up, that was a curse of God. If God hadn’t wanted those people to get blown up, they wouldn’t have gotten blown up. We’re not trying to be arrogant about it, but those things happen according to God’s will. God uses unrighteous people to punish other unrighteous people."

Despite it all, he maintains that he's never felt ashamed of his actions.

"Not only do I not feel ashamed – and I’m not being proud or haughty or arrogant about it – but I literally feel bad for the people who are there who do not feel ashamed," he continues. "In other words, the scripture says, ‘Were they ashamed when they committed abominations? Nay, they were not ashamed, neither could they blush.’ That means they don’t even consider some of these things sin anymore, so there’s no blushing involved. And that’s what really makes me cringe – that the kind of things the Lord has pronounced to be sin, we, in our cocky arrogant state, said that culture has moved on and these things are no longer considered to be sins. It makes me ashamed for my country."

"Usually the media doesn’t really buy our answer because they think, ‘You gotta be ashamed.’ No, you gotta be ashamed. It’s my contention and the church’s contention that in the mainstream media, if you wrote an article that said something like, ‘You know, I really wonder if being a homosexual is the right thing to do,’ your career is over. You can castigate us all day long and you will win awards, but if you castigate the fags, you’re toast. There is a bias in the media that is absolutely pervasive. Behind every decision, there is a very clever, well-educated, marketing-savvy fag that is going to ruin your career if you call into question their lifestyle."

There really isn't anything left to say.

In the bottom photo, you can see part of a large, yellow banner. It’s 20 feet long and reads, “LIVE YOUR LIFE AND BE AWESOME”. We stood out there, in the middle of the Westboro fools, the entire time they protested. Kansas City doesn’t approve of hate – not one bit!

This sounds like a really bad idea for a Saturday Night Live skit. It doesn’t even sound like they’re trying to be serious and get people to change. It just sounds like a bad attempt at humor.
