We recently had the chance to catch up with Jordan Rager about his new single, “One of the Good Ones,” his upcoming project, his-all-time favorite song, and much more! Read our exclusive interview with Jordan below:
NG: You most recently released the single, “One of the Good Ones.” What made you decide to record and release that track?
JR: It’s rare that I know I want to record a song the first time I listen to it, but that’s how I felt about “Good Ones.” The energy of it grabbed me from the start and wouldn’t let me go. I related to every lyric as if I would’ve wrote it myself. And of course, it name drops my favorite ball player, Chipper Jones. It’s definitely my favorite song I’ve released so far.
NG: “One of the Good Ones” is not a song you wrote on, but you do write a lot of your songs. What’s your songwriting process?
JR: It’s different every time. Sometimes, I start with an idea or concept, sometimes the music comes first, sometimes it’s a melody I can’t get out of my head. Songwriting is probably my favorite part of what I do. I love creating something from nothing and telling a story.
NG: Do you have an all-time favorite song that you’ve written?
JR: That’s tough. I love all my songs for different reasons. I think the songs that stand out are the ones that come from personal experience.
NG: What’s a song by another artist that you wish you had written?
JR: “We Rode In Trucks” by Luke Bryan. When I hear it, I see my hometown and the way I grew up. It’s like whoever wrote it was writing it for me.
NG: You’ve had the chance to duet with Jason Aldean and tour with Justin Moore. What do you learn from guys like that?
JR: Both Jason and Justin have taught me so much, but I think my biggest take away from them has been find your thing – your style, your attitude, and stick to it. When you’re able to do that, you become that much harder to stop.
NG: For those who may not be familiar with your music, describe your sound in 3 words.
JR: Fresh, honest and country.
NG: We know that you’re working on a new project. What can fans expect from that and more importantly, when can we hear it?
JR: I’m still in the writing/recording stage, but we’re really close to a release date. I hope it’s soon, because I’m so excited for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on.
NG: You’ve had a ton of success already, but what is the number one thing on your bucket list that you’d like to achieve?
JR: Headline my own sold out tour. I’ve played sold out shows before, but my own tour has always been a dream of mine. Hopefully one day.
NG: You can tour with any two artists – Who do you choose?
JR: Dream tour would be Kenny Chesney – playing a football stadium would be a bucket list thing for me. The other would be touring with my buds Jon Langston, Travis Denning and Cole Taylor. We play a show every Christmas called “Four Wheel Drive” – making it into a whole tour would be a blast.
NG: What does the rest of 2018 have in store for you?
JR: I’ll continue to write and record new songs and keep working towards a release date. In the mean time, I’ll be on the road playing the new songs, visiting some of my old stomping grounds and playing new places as well.
