Legendary country singer Crystal Gayle will be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry. During an appearance on Tuesday night, she was surprised by Opry member Carrie Underwood, who asked if she’d “like to join the Opry family officially.”
“I have always felt like I was a member of the family and this is just so special,” Gayle remarked.
“Crystal Gayle’s music is truly timeless, like the Grand Ole Opry,” said Opry Vice President and General Manager Pete Fisher. “Her velvety voice and friendly personality will make this special family even more special.”
The “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” singer will officially become an Opry member on January 21 at the Ryman Auditorium, where she made her first appearance at age sixteen. She is the younger sister of Loretta Lynn and has an impressive catalogue of 20 #1 hits and six gold albums.
Gayle is the first new Opry member since Little Big Town was inducted in October 2014.
