Randy Travis’ team disputes heart surgery claims

Earlier today, news hit that Randy Travis had undergone heart surgery. The story originated with People.com who had been told the news by Randy's sister-in-law. Randy's team, however, disputes the story and just released a statement saying that Randy had not in fact had surgery.

Contrary to reports, Randy Travis has not undergone heart surgery.  Travis is
being treated for viral cardiomyopathy.  Travis was admitted into a Texas
hospital on Sunday and underwent placement of an IMPELLA peripheral left
ventricular assist device for stabilization prior to transferring hospitals.

The Grammy winner remains in critical
condition. “We are very thankful to the fans for their love and support
during this time,” says Randy Travis.

Cards and well wishes can be sent

Randy
Travis is best known for “I Told You So,” "Three Wooden Crosses," "Forever and
Ever, Amen," "Diggin' Up Bones," and "Deeper Than the Holler”.

UC San Diego says about the Impella device: "The Impella device is a tiny pump that is inserted with a catheter through the groin rather than being surgically implanted. It can be used temporarily to help patients tolerate procedures such as angioplasty by relieving the heart’s pumping function and providing the time needed to perform life-saving procedures."

Sounds like the original story might have just been an assumption on People.com's part or Randy's sister-in-law's part or just a mixup between a simple procedure and a complicated surgery. In any case, it sounds like Randy could still use as many prayers as he can get.

On a side note, is the address above Randy's home address? Trulia has it listed as a 5 bedroom, 7 bath, 8970 square foot farm/ranch and you can see pictures of the home that last sold for $3.5 million here. Interesting.
